Leema Acoustics Stream new Entry-level CD Player

After the Antila CD player, Leema Acoustics extends its line with an "entry-level" CD player. Available at £1,095 the Stream CD player is closely based on the Antila and is set for launch in time for Christmas.

This CD player still features the MD2 active differential multi-DAC converter technology from its brother, 16x 24-bit/192KHz Crystal multi-bit DAC as opposed to the Antilla's 20, Delta-Sigma converters, a Philips CD drive and has a coaxial digital output. The front panel has only one control: Leema's L-Drive. This single rotary control handles all the usual functions such as CD tray open and close, play, stop, next and previous track selection and so on. And the Stream is equipped with LIPS (Leema's Intelligent Protocol System) which enables the CD player to communicate with other Leema products.

Leema Acoustics Xero latest Mini-Monitor Louspeaker

The latest Leema Acoustics mini-monitor called Xero is a development of the Xen with the home user in mind. At £1,000 these loudspeakers are essentially a downsized Xen with a simpler construction.

The Xen used a hybrid steel and wood cabinet with metal front baffle, whereas the Xero employs a more conventional wooden cabinet slightly smaller at 220x140x206mm and lighter at 10kg. The Xeros run a single bass port rear-mounted instead of two on the Xen and just above it this is a block of bi-wireable binding posts with gold plated links.

Theses speakers feature a 1-inch Vifa Tymphany fabric dome tweeter that uses high-flux neodymium magnets and ferro-fluid damping, plus a new bespoke 100mm magnetically screened mid-bass driver. The crossover uses hand-wound air-cored inductors associated with high quality capacitors.

As for other specifications, the Xero has a 6Ω impedance, a sensitivity of 85.5dB/W/m, a frequency response of 55Hz-30kHz and a 200W power handling. Also the wood veneer is available in a choice of Cherry, Birds Eye Maple, Ebony or Black Ash.

JVC HA-S900 Foldable Headphones

JVC added a new high-end model to its headphone line. Available immediately at a suggested retail price of $129.95, the new JVC HA-S900 offers high quality sound reproduction in a lightweight, foldable over-the-ear headphone.

The HA-S900’s performance is achieved through the use of a carbon compound diaphragm mated to a ported ring that controls the diaphragm’s movement, or sound pressure level, and so provides greater detail across a wide frequency range. Further enhancing the listening experience are sound-insulating ear pads that effectively block out ambient sound while also providing a comfortable fit.

The cushioned ear pads fold flat, so they’re easily packed, and a carrying case is included. Other features include a gold-plated iPhone-compatible plug and a four-foot tangle-resistant cord.
